Preparing for Thanksgiving at the Backpack Society

Starting in 2024, the Village Idiots Cycling Club has been partnering with the Backpack Society, a local nonprofit organization focused on food insecurity in area schools. Founded in 2019, the Backpack Society (BPS) helps students and families who struggle to provide regular meals, which BPS considers foundational for children’s learning.
The Idiots provide financial assistance to BPS as our charity partner and volunteer at their warehouse and distribution center, which now includes a pantry that families in need can visit to choose food items that appeal to them. Today, BPS partners with schools in Douglas County, Littleton Public School District, and Englewood School District.
On Nov 16th, the Village Idiots helped BPS to prepare over 200 individual Thanksgiving dinner bags ahead of the holiday. Working in a production line, the idiots packed bags of canned and dry goods. These bags, together with a frozen turkey, would enable a family to prepare a Thanksgiving meal. The bags were to be distributed to families that had registered for aid.
