About the Village Idiots Cycling Club

Club History

The Village Idiots Cycling Club was founded in 2007 by a small group of cyclists who lived in and around The Village at Castle Pines in Colorado and who loved to ride, socialize, and give back to the community.   Over the years, we have ridden tens of thousands of miles, shared countless experiences and stories, and raised over $30,000 for our charity partners.

In 2014, we formally organized as a 501(c)7 nonprofit organization which is defined as a social club "organized for pleasure, recreation, and other nonprofitable purposes."

Today, our members come primarily from communities across Douglas County. But we welcome anyone interested in joining us, who lives in a village (no matter how large or small), and who doesn’t mind being occasionally referred to as an idiot.

Pedal-Play-Purpose

Our tagline is "Pedal. Play. Purpose." which reflects the club's equal focus on cycling, socializing, and community support.

Scheduled rides can be found on our event calendar.  They include road, paved trail, and gravel rides.  In addition to weekly local rides, we host weekend out-of-town rides in other parts of the state and week-long rides in other parts of the country in conjunction with guided tour companies.  Our members also participate in several sponsored events, which in the recent past have included the Ride to End ALZ, Copper Triangle, Triple Bypass, Tour of the Moon, and Venus di Miles.

The club’s social events, which can also be found on the event calendar, include after-ride get-togethers at local restaurants, coffee shops, and breweries, as well as larger events like our annual jersey reveal party in the spring and our ever-popular end-of-season brunch.

Our community involvement includes financial and volunteer support for a local charity that we choose each year.  Half of our individual membership fees go directly to our selected charity partner.  Each year, we also run two roadside cleanup events along a stretch of S. Havana St. and a used bike drive in conjunction with HopeCycle.

More information can be found on our individual Pedal, Play and Purpose pages.

Membership

We welcome all cyclists who are willing and able to join us.  A prospective member must be at least 14 years old.  A minor under 18 must register through their parent/guardian, who will sign the online waiver on their behalf, and must have a parent or guardian with them when participating in club rides.

Individual membership fees must be paid up front.  Half of the individual membership fee goes directly to our chosen charity partner, and the other half funds the cost of a club jersey.  Our business partners cover the club’s operating expenses.

Business Partners

Our business partners are critical to our success because their membership fees fund the operating expenses of the club and because they provide valuable goods and services to our members and the communities that we live in. Businesses can partner with the club at Century, Criterium or Time Trial levels depending upon their financial commitment. The current list of business partners and their logos can be found on the website, on our jerseys, and at various club events.
