Who We Are

Interested in joining the Village Idiots Cycling Club? Please email dboose17@gmail.com for information on 2024 registration.

The Village Idiots Cycling Club was founded in 2007 by people who love to ride, socialize, and give back to the community.   Over the years we have ridden thousands of miles, shared countless experiences and stories, and raised nearly $200,000 for charities.  We are open to community-focused people of all cycling abilities, hailing from near and far.  Check out our FAQ Page for more information!

We offer a variety of rides from open road to gravel and paved bike paths.  For a description of our ride types, click here:  Ride Types. During the 2022 season, we accomplished over 90 organized rides and collectively rode over 13,000 miles. We also supported the community in a variety of ways:

  • Donated over $3,760 to the Douglas County Help and Hope Center, a non-profit organization that provides support for local residents facing financial difficulties.
  • We are the proud “owners” of a stretch of South Havana Street near Castle Rock, and conducted clean-up days in the spring and fall as part of the Douglas County Adopt-A-Road program.
  • Sponsored a used bike drives for HopeCycle, a local non-profit that repairs and repurposes used bicycles, turning them into “good as new” bikes for needy children. Our drives have collected as many as 80 used bicycles annually.

10-20 enthusiastic volunteers typically participate in each event.

We plan to continue with all of these community support activities in 2023.

Middle Tennessee - Tailwinds 2022

The out of state trip was declared a rousing success by all. It was a first for some to ride with a tour outfitter and we chose well with Carolina Tailwinds Bicycle Tours. Our guides were fun and attentive to all details (even changing flats) as we navigated the smooth roads of Middle Tennessee. Greg and Jeff received a solid thumbs up for the mid-ride snacks complete with Moon Pies, Nutter Butters, fresh fruit, and drinks with ice for water bottles. The terrain was beautiful with a combination of green, gently rolling hills and a few challenging climbs. With morning and afternoon rides, cyclists were able to choose their distance and difficulty, but the average distance was 50 miles a day and 2,500’ of elevation.

The accommodations of boutique hotels were top-notch including delicious meals and quaint lodging. Our last hotel included hiking with water falls tucked into the surrounding Tennessee forest. Another special stop was the tour of Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, TN and learning the history of filtered moonshine

2023 - This year's trip will be in Grand Junction, CO, September 7-10, and will include the Tour of the Moon ride organized by the Ride Collective. For additional information, please refer to the event calendar.

 VIC² Signature Ride

Signature Ride 2021

Towards the end of our riding season the Village Idiots participated in the annual Signature Ride with riddle clues, knowledge of safety and obstacles being the mode of team appraisal. Teams are arranged and awarded points based on the proficiency of the tasks and riddle solutions. It is not a race; however teams are graded on tire changing, ability to navigate with GPS and riding safety. In 2021 the club was treated to riding the Air Force Academy grounds during the event. Bryan Huntley graciously provided entrance to all riders and organized the stages with fellow club member Greg Ordonez. Afterwards everyone enjoyed a BBQ picnic and lawn games.

VIC² Volunteer Days @ Douglas County Hope and Help Center

VIC² members go over and above to give back to our community.   As a proud supporter of the Douglas/Elbert Task Force (website) which supports those in financial need.

In the past we have taken on projects at the HHC including landscaping and painting.   We also volunteer as needed at the food bank.  The community at large donates food and basic needs goods at designated drop off points. The food is then brought to the DETF facility for sorting.

The Village Idiots Adopt-A-Road!

VIC² owns the road!  Well, technically we own the responsibility for one of the many great stretches we have available to us for riding.

We are fortunate to have such great riding routes in our area, and want to do our part to keep them beautiful!

Our adopted "baby" is the one mile stretch of South Havana between Castle Pines Parkway north to Oak Hill Lane (the I-25  underpass road) across from the Surrey Ridge dog park.

We hold a couple of clean up days per year, so come on out and pitch in...members and non-members are welcome to come out and clean up!

Annual Out-Of-Town Cycling Adventures

Every year VIC² organizes a long weekend getaway event, alternating between out-of-state, and within our beautiful state of Colorado.  The past several years have included Napa, Aspen, Santa Barbara, Steamboat Springs, Moab and Sedona.

The weekend includes a combination of dinners, sightseeing, and organized rides.  Riding memories from the past trips include riding the Ink Grade in Napa, The Fig in Solvang, Independence Pass, Rabbit Ears Pass, The Big Nasty in Moab, and Mingus Mountain.   Our visits to the Silver Oak Winery, Salvatore Espresso Machines, Woody Creek Tavern, Moots Bicycle Factory,  Strawberry Park Hot Springs, Arches National Park and Page Springs and Winery have been among great sightseeing events.
